Our Work
M.E.M.O. Medical Mission Trip
M.E.M.O. uses the funds it collects in an annual two week medical mission trip to Vietnam. The organization invites doctors, health professionals, and multiple students volunteers from USC, UCI, UCLA and UCSD to travel to impoverished areas of Vietnam to provide medical aid and address educational needs. By supplying the villagers with the fundamental needs, which include healthcare and education, M.E.M.O. hopes to give them a foundation in which they can raise themselves out of their current living conditions. Student Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with patient intake, triage, dental, pharmacy, EKG, and ultrasound in these mobile health clinics. These clinics will also provide an in-clinic pharmacy where patients can get their prescriptions after a primary assessment with our doctors.
01
Heart Program
The Heart Program is designed to provide funds and volunteer surgeons perform life-saving surgeries for children with congenital heart disease in Vietnam. Through M.E.M.O.’s fundraising efforts, we have been able to provide the funds for the medical expenses of the surgery, including pre- and post- operational care. M.E.M.O.’s efforts are aimed towards providing support and care for the children and their families so they can carry on with normal lives.
02
HOPE Program
The Hope Program is focused on aiding children in select orphanages by providing funds to give them access to healthcare, school supplies, clothing, and some fun. A portion of the funds collected by every chapter through their fundraising events contributes to this cause, and mission trip attendees are given the opportunity to visit the receiving orphanages when delivering toys and supplies. By participating and partnering with these orphanages, we are able to bring a smile to the children’s faces, support them in pursuing a bright future, and also see the fruition of our efforts throughout our academic school years.
03
Scholarship Program
For many families in Vietnam, the biggest barrier for their children to attain or further their education is financial insecurity. For $85, not only can we keep a student in school for a year, but also encourage disadvantaged children to work towards a brighter future in spite of their circumstances. Our scholarship program allows us to raise funds and sponsor children in furthering their education by covering tuition costs and a variety of school supplies, including pencils, erasers, pens, notebooks and a backpack. We hope that supporting these young scholars in their education will open doors to new opportunities and uplift their communities as well.
04
Dental Program
Doctors and student volunteers provide extractions, fillings, root canals, and cleanings. These procedures are done so that the Vietnamese people can maintain proper oral hygiene, which is important in preventing oral diseases. The accompanying dentists share their expertise with the students and provide quality care to the patients. The student dental team will receive dental training in the weeks prior to the mission trip in order to provide the best quality care to the Vietnam citizens. Many of the citizens we serve do not have the opportunity to regularly visit a dentist, so our program strives to educate them with general knowledge regarding oral hygiene.
